Sustainability
We seek to create environment and climate-friendly hydropower plants in the developed and developing world to provide sustainable, reliable and affordable energy.
Sustainable Development Goals
Greenhouse gas emissions from energy generation are the main driver behind the rise in global temperatures. Reducing emissions and transitioning to a low-carbon economy powered by renewable energy resources is essential to limit the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change.
Hydropower is the most established renewable energy source, delivering clean and reliable energy. Aímsír invests into small- to medium-sized hydropower schemes in developed and developing countries to provide quick access to low-emission, sustainable energy.
Big Picture
In 2015, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The goals serve as guidelines for governments, businesses, organisations and individuals in the transition to a sustainable, equal and prosperous global society. In addition, the Paris agreement was adopted in 2016, highlighting the need to limit the increase in global temperatures to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The recent publication of a special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) further emphasises the environmental and social benefits associated with limiting the rise in global temperatures. However, achieving this will require rapid and profound changes in land use, industry, transport and energy systems.
Aimsir’s work directly contributes to six SDGs in the following tiers:
Tier 1
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Tier 2
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
Tier 3
Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
